People experience regret for various reasons: not traveling to a particular place, not pursuing a certain opportunity, staying in a boring job, not having children, not committing to a certain relationship, not studying a topic of interest, committing an act of hate or aggression, treating another person with disdain, maintaining a bad habit…the list is endless. For whatever reason you’re participating in this mindfulness program, it is very possible to drop the attachment to regret and move on in the present moment, fully aware and happy.
Did you know that more people regret what they didn’t do, than what they had done? Regret is a remarkable condition. It’s an anguish that is wrapped in shame, bitterness, and sometimes grief. Though it appears to have a lot of power, regret can be easily overcome, as this 30 days mindfulness program will reveal to you. Life is not meant to be spent believing the lies of regret. If you struggle with regret, it’s time to drop the attachment.
Regret is essentially a misperception of experiences and time; in other words, regret sends the message that you could have, should have, or shouldn’t have done something in the past. With regret, the blame is placed entirely on you; as if you’re in control of the universal past and present.
